Course Start:
May 4 2010 - 5:45pm
Location:
Price: $195.00

Program Summary:

Get the jump on the open water season with the Intermediate Open Water Course. While the Open Water Confidence Course's main focus is confidence and comfort in open ocean waters, the Intermediate Course looks at building greater skill and confidence during long distance swim practices. Importance is placed on working through technique focus points and further training approaches that will give you what you need to take your open water swimming to the next level.

In this course, you will:

  • swim throughout most of the hour long sessions while building skill, mental focus and distance around specific skill, technique and body awareness points
  • refine key freestyle techniques that make open water swimming easier and faster
  • improve and practice key skills for navigation and racing strategies for a variety of water conditions
  • learn pacing and speed skills in changing water conditions
  • develop confidence and strategies for swimming in close quarters with other swimmers
  • work with key open water and long course pool practices (Kits Pool and 50m pools) that you can use during and after the course is over.

Cost:

$195 + GST

Pre-requisites:

This course will proceed in more challenging conditions than the Open Water Confidence Course, including colder conditions, with significantly less in-water talks, drills, and regrouping. Therefore it is important, within reason, to be a fairly independent ocean swimmer. There will still be two coaches and the swims confined to relatively accessible distances from shore but in general a competence and comfort with ocean swimming is a requirement to participate in this course.

In addition pre-requisites for this course are one of:

  • Sea Hiker's Open Water Confidence Course
  • Sea Hiker's Sensational Freestyle or private coaching
  • Consultation with and agreement from a Sea Hiker coach prior to registration
